The Scoop – 23andFDA | Annual Gift List Edition | HPV Vaccine November 26, 2013

Today’s hottest news: 23andMe has been FDA-ed. Sigh. (Thanks to multiple readers for sharing this news item.) Unsurprisingly, this is resulting in major industry backlash, including scientists and health experts who say this move will only delay innovation and progress.

Chanukah starts at sundown tomorrow. Don’t worry if you didn’t get me anything yet, you still have 8 days. What better time to roll out (wait for it) this year’s holiday gift list! Thanks to our COO James Woodland for item #1, Google Glass contact lenses. They’re not available just yet, but it’s good to know they’re coming. Amazon’s Black Friday deals have been going on practically all month – you don’t even need to leave your cozy little cubicle. Here’s what else I’m watching:

• Wearables, of course – but not just smartwatches. I’m thinking of sporting a smart wig, and buying my new nephew a smart onesie

• Laptop bags and purses that charge your devices

• Toys that make your kids smarter

Bacon deodorant: the perfect Secret Santa gift

• Okay, how about this: get some lightsabers, then get some Minecraft weapons, and see which geek wins

• On night one, my husband is getting a Chillsner and some whiskey rocks. I like to keep my honey nice & sauced

• I don’t even understand what this is, but I want someone to buy it for me.

So what’s on your list?

HPV vaccination rates would be higher if only parents would chillax, according to a JAMA study that found it’s parent misconceptions and attitudes about sex that keep many from vaccinating their teens.

Yahoo! What a hire – the search and media giant hires Katie Couric to do what she does best at ‘global anchor.’
