Internet trends superstar Mary Meeker has issued her awesome 164-page trend report! Here’s how it relates to our industry, thanks to Business Insider reporters who identified there’s 3 slides that really focus on health. In particular, there are three top trends that will play a major role: digital technology (which is now antiquated but allows for change), government push to improve technology via HITECH Act and ACA, and the consumerization of healthcare. She seems to find EHR adoption encouraging, as well as the major influx of tech startups in and entering the space. Overall trends that are also critical to be aware of per this report (thanks to TechCrunch analysis): Internet growth is continuing but slowing, mobile is a major force (whether smartphone or tablet), Internet advertising is strong on all screens, YouTube has a massive audience that shouldn’t be ignored, we’re in the beginning of the age of Big Data.

Lilly and Sanofi may partner to sell Cialis over the counter, and are seeking approval to make this move.

Confirmed: Apple is buying Beats by Dr. Dre for $3 billion.

A study of publishers across industries found that most (88+%) are confident their digital revenues will rise, and most polled (62+%) say their digital presence will be ad supported.

A study has found that most Wikipedia pages focusing on “most costly diseases” contain major errors. This included lung cancer, diabetes, osteoarthritis, coronary artery disease, COPD, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, major depressive disorder, and back pain.

Tell me if you noticed this, seriously – Google gave its logo a little chiropractic adjustment over the weekend.

Internet win of the day: LeVar Burton has successfully revived Reading Rainbow with a Kickstarter campaign that raised $1 million in 1 day.

Unlikely business inspiration of the day: what can businesses learn from Motley Crue? Quite a bit actually, since the band’s brand has been going strong for decades. Always protect your brand, no matter what, tell your own story but also adapt to changing times. More details in this well-written story.

Nerd fantasy come true (babelfish!) – Skype and Microsoft have appeared to have invented a universal translator that enables translation in real-time. This will probably be available in Spanish and French, no word on whether it will be available in mother-in-law (“well what did she MEAN when she said that?”)
